How to Save Early for Christmas

Christmas season is fast approaching and many consumers are bracing for the up-coming expenses to celebrate the holidays. But did you know that if you start as early as today, you can save a great deal from your budget? The Christmas season is approaching and it’s time to start saving! Consider the following tips:

save early for christmasFill-up a jar.

Each day, check your purse and put all your loose coins in a money jar. It may not be so much but the money you can save can be enough to buy that perfect Christmas present to someone you care about, start saving today!

Build-up your Christmas savings.

If you start saving earlier in the year, you can open a savings account that is especially intended for your Christmas expenses. You can set aside at least 2% or 3% of your monthly salary and have it directly deposited to this account. By December, you would have saved enough money to spend exclusively for the holidays.

Cook your meals.

Instead of buying lunch every day, why not bring your own packed lunch and save money? You can create a weekly meal plan, cook dishes in advance on the weekends, store food in lunch boxes inside the freezer so you won’t need to cook on week days. You can literally save a hundred dollars on food purchases if you follow this advice.

Switch to a prepaid cell phone.

If you are currently subscribed to a mobile phone service, consider using a prepaid phone so you won’t need to pay the monthly fee.

Buy gifts early.

Make a list of the people you plan to give Christmas gifts too. When thinking about the right gift to buy, consider the person’s hobbies or passion. Be on the lookout for sales or discounts and instead of buying gifts at once, you may consider buying one gift at a time.

Make your own gift.

Sometimes, the best gifts are not store-bought but ones which you took the time to make yourself. If you enjoy a certain craft such as knitting, painting, sculpting, and others, why not give a gift that you made yourself? Instead of buying gifts for all, check your list and consider who among your friends or relatives have a thing for the crafts you make.

Compare prices.

Before purchasing, take the time to check prices from various merchants especially if you plan to buy online. Some sellers may sell the same product at a lower price and even if there’s only a few dollars different, you can still save a considerable amount if you add up all your purchases.

Pay in cash.

You might be tempted to spend more if you know that you can pay it back later. Yes, many credit cardholders find themselves stuck in bad debt right after the holiday season as a result of overspending. So instead of using your credit cards to pay for all your purchases, consider using cash too.

Don’t max out your limit.

It’s okay to use your credit card as long as you know your limit. Restrict yourself from charging too many expenses to your card, making sure that you leave at least 60% of your credit line free from charges.
