Choose A No Annual Fee Reward Credit Card

When searching for a reward credit card you will encounter a lot of different offers.  Aside from a reasonable rate of interest, the ideal reward credit card is one with minimal set of fees. Common fees that you can expect from a credit card include an annual fee, late penalty fee, over-the-limit fee, balance transfer fee, and others.

Look for A No Annual Fee Reward Credit Card

These days, some reward credit cards carry very expensive annual fees that can range from $80 to $100 dollars or higher.  You can just imagine how much you will be paying every year just to keep your credit card active.  In three years, you’d have spent $300 or more on annual fees alone.

As a result of this information and a little bit of your own research, you can save a great deal of money if you can get a reward credit card with no annual fee. Consider the following tips when looking for a no annual fee reward credit card:

Is it introductory?

You may encounter credit cards that carry no annual fee but only for the first year.  Although you won’t pay right away, you will still need to pay a fee for the succeeding years to keep your membership active.

Some credit cards may also offer an introductory rate that only will last for a limited period of time.  For example, the initial low rate may turn to a high interest rate after six or 12 months.  If you do not check the fine print, you may find yourself stuck with a high rate card later on.

The rewards program.

Not all reward credit cards with no annual fee offer a great deal of incentive to sign up.  Don’t apply for a credit card just because it has no annual fee.  Be sure to first consider if the reward program being offered suits your lifestyle and needs.

Are the rules of the reward program easy to follow? Can you earn points without sacrificing your budget?  Can you afford to maintain your reward credit card?  To really get the most benefit from a reward credit card, it is very important to make sure that the reward program fits you.

Hidden fees.

Watch out for reward credit cards that offer no annual fee yet imposes hidden charges from each transaction.  All credit card fees must be disclosed in the Agreement, so you should be sure to read the fine print to make sure that you will not be subjected to unfair charges.

Credit Check.

Most issuers of rewards credit cards have very strict standards when it comes to approving cardholders.  If you have a less than perfect credit rating, you might not get approved for a reward credit card that easily.  Once your credit card application gets rejected, your credit score will drop even more.  Therefore, before submitting your application, be sure to check the issuer’s credit requirement first.

If you have a high credit score, you will surely get approved for any credit card you prefer.   Keep in mind that credit card companies reserve their best deals only for customers with a good to excellent credit rating.
