Avoid Swiping Your Credit Card in Unsafe Places
People are usually more worried with their credit report when they have to deal with credit cards and debit cards. No one really wants to have a poor credit score simply because they need that good credit score to open a new line of credit in the future.
There are many individuals around the world who make a living off stealing credit card numbers, so it is definitely something that you have to think about whenever you are out and about. Sometimes your credit card numbers are not even safe in your own home because they can be stolen while you are doing some simple online shopping. In today’s world, you always have to be looking over your shoulder and making sure that no one else is getting unauthorized access to your personal information.
There are many different places where credit card numbers can be stolen, but the most common place is the Internet. You open yourself up to all different kinds of attacks when you do not shop online in a safe manner, so you need to take all of the proper precautions before you start typing in your personal information. There are basically two main things that you can do to keep your information safe while you are shopping online. First, you should only be shopping at websites that have https in front of the web address instead of http. This means that the website adds an extra layer of encryption whenever you are typing in sensitive information. Secondly, make sure that all of your virus software is up to date and working. Many people actually steal your passwords and bank information by adding a virus or keylogger to your computer and then waiting for you to innocently start to type in your credit card number.
The other place where you need to be careful while you are using your credit card is any restaurant that you go to during the week. Restaurants are hotbeds for credit card theft because you give the waitress access to your credit card while you are not there to watch what she is doing. This waitress could have a machine that rips all of the information off of your card for her as she gets ready to swipe your card for your payment. With all of the information from the device, the waitress will be able to go home and start an online shopping spree.
As you can see, you need to be careful about who you are giving your card whenever you do any kind of shopping. It would be wise to worry less about your credit report and more about your credit card because the safety of your credit card can also affect your report in the long run.
